11-run top of the 5th leads W-E-M past Blooming Prairie in Gopher Conference softball 17-1

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team entertained Gopher Conference rival Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Thursday, and the Buccaneers used an 11-run top of the 5th inning to break the game wide open in a 17-1, five inning win.

W-E-M led 6-0 with four runs in the third and two more in the fourth when Lexi Steckelberg scored the lone run of the game for the Blossoms in the bottom of the fourth.  Steckelberge also tallied two of BP’s four hits in the game, with teammates Allison Krohnberg and Lauren Schammel rapping out the other two.  The Buccaneers were also helped along by five Blooming Prairie errors while piling up 16 hits in the five-inning win.

The Blossoms are now 2-1 on the young season, and they are right back on the diamond today as they travel to St. Clair to take on St. Clair/Loyola, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
