Albert Lea man taken into custody after search of an Austin restaurant Friday turns up cocaine and suspected fentanyl charged in Mower County District Court

An Albert Lea man who was taken into custody after a search warrant conducted by authorities at a restaurant on West Oakland Avenue in Austin Friday turned up cocaine and suspected fentanyl has been charged in Mower County District Court.  

Chief of Police Dave McKichan stated in a news release that 39-year old Terry Izeal Heggs was placed in the Mower County jail after a search warrant was executed Friday at 3401 West Oakland Avenue, which included the restaurant Wing Bazaar.  Officers from the Austin Police Department, the Mower County Sheriff’s Office, the SE Minnesota Violent Crime Enforcement Team and the South Central Minnesota Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation, and Chief McKichan stated that over 50 grams of cocaine were located on the premises, along with suspected fentanyl.  

McKichan went on to state that a protected party from Heggs in a DANCO matter, or a domestic abuse no-contact order was also found at the location in proximity to Heggs, who was charged Tuesday with felonies for 1st degree drugs, 17 grams or more of cocaine in possession with the intent to sell, 1st degree drugs, possession of 50 or more grams of cocaine, a gross misdemeanor for violation of a domestic abuse no-contact order, and a misdemeanor for fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle.

Bail or bond with conditions for Heggs was set Tuesday at $250,000, while bail or bond with no conditions was set at $500,000.  Heggs’ next appearance in Mower County District Court has been scheduled for January 30th.
