Although new cases of COVID-19 are down dramatically, Mayo Clinic doctor stresses caution moving forward; Mower County records 69th COVID-19 related death

New cases of COVID-19 are down 90% from the peak, with under 75,000 new cases reported last week across the U.S.  Dr. Gregory Poland, Head of Mayo Clinic’s Vaccine Research Group stated to KAUS News that what we’re observing is a dramatic suppression of cases….


Dr. Poland went on to warn that there are still people who are vulnerable to COVID-19 infection….

Austin Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Joey Page stated in a weekly COVID report from the district that 8 cases were recorded for the week of February 19th through the 25th, compared to 17 cases for the week of February 12th through the 18th. The Minnesota Department of Health reported Wednesday that Mower County has recorded its 69th COVID-19 related death in an individual 80-84 years of age, and they added that the county reported 11,227 confirmed and 497 probable COVID-19 cases Wednesday for a cumulative total of 11,723 since the onset of the pandemic, up six from Tuesday.  The Department of Health also reported that at last word in Mower County, 25,852, or 64.9% of the residents of the county have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 24,339, or 61.1% of the residents have received both doses thus far to complete their vaccination series.
