Area baseball roundup from Monday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics, the No. 9 team in the state in the first preseason poll in Class A baseball took to the road Monday to open their 2022 season in Spring Grove versus the Lions in the Southeast Conference, and it was the Lions rallying back from a 5-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and another four in the sixth to edge the Athletics 7-6.

Hunter VaDeer supplied the only hit of the game for LP with a three-run homer in a five-run top of the third in three trips to the plate, plus he scored a run and stole two bases.  Lyle/Pacelli parlayed three Spring Grove errors into three unearned runs as Trey Anderson scored a run for the Athletics and stole two bases, and Jake Truckenmiller also scored a run for the Athletics, who open the season with a record of 0-1.

Lyle/Pacelli is now off until Tuesday, April 19th when they will play their home opener at Marcusen Park in Austin versus Schaeffer Academy in the Southeast Conference, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

The Southland Rebels played their home opener Monday versus Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons in the Southeast Conference, and a seven-run bottom of the first helped to propel the Rebels to a 9-1 victory.

Gavin Nelson went 2 for 4 for Southland at the plate with three RBI’s, a run scored and a stolen base, Tyson Stevens was 2 for 3 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored, Harrison Hanna went 1 for 3 for the Rebels with a run knocked in, a run scored and a stolen base, Jonas Wiste was also 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored, Riley Jax and Travis Kirtz were also both 1 for 3 and Connor Edland was 1 for 2 with a run driven in, while Maverick Hanna scored a pair of runs and Isaac Felten added an RBI.  Harrison Hanna earned the win on the mound for the Rebels as he pitched the first 5 1/3 innings and gave up one run on one hit while striking out nine and walking only one.  Maverick Hanna pitched the last 1 1/3 innings and did not give up a run or a hit while striking out two.

Southland is 1-0 to open the season, and the Rebels return to action back at home Thursday versus Houston in another Southeast Conference game, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms were on the road for their second game of the season at Janesville Monday for a Gopher Conference matchup with Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, and while the Blossoms led 7-6 at the end of three innings of play, the Bulldogs came roaring back with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth on their way to a 17-7 win.

JWP tallied the 17 runs on 12 hits while committing four errors, and Blooming Prairie wound up with the seven runs on five hits and seven errors.  The Blossoms are now 0-2 on the young season, and BP will play their home opener this afternoon versus NRHEG in another Gopher Conference matchup, with first pitch in Blooming Prairie at 5:00 p.m.
