Area boys’ basketball recap from Tuesday evening

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms boys’ basketball team played the second game of a season-opening two-game road swing in Mapleton Tuesday evening versus Maple River, and it was the host Eagles bolting out of the gate to lead 50-11 at the half on their way to a 69-26 win.

Drew Kittleson was the lone Blossom in double figures with 16 points, plus he added seven rebounds, Zack Hein added five points, Collin Jordinson swished a 3-pointer for three points and Payton Fristedt scored two points for the Blossoms,  who are now 0-2 on the young season.

Blooming Prairie returns to action for their home opener Friday night versus Medford in another Gopher Conference matchup, with the varsity tip-off scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

In the Southeast Conference, the Southland Rebels traveled to LeRoy Tuesday evening to take on the LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals in their home opener, and Harrison Hannah led four Rebels in double figures with 24 points as Southland rolled to an 83-38 win.

Hannah swished three of Southland’s 11 3-pointers on his way to the 24 points, while Brendan Kennedy tallied 17 points, Eli Wolff chipped in 14 points, Cale Wehrenberg hit two 3-pointers on his way to 10 points, and Nick Edland added seven points in the win for the Rebels.  Tanner Olson was the lone Cardinal in double figures in points with 10, Levi Royston swished two 3-pointers on his way to eight points, Gavin Sweeney added six points, Memphis Gomez chipped in three points and Layne Bird, Chase Johnson, Tristan Lewison and Kaden Hansen all scored two points apiece for LeRoy/Ostrander, who fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss.  With the win, Southland is now 2-0 on the young season.

Southland returns to action in what should be a great game Thursday night at home against Hayfield, with tip-off at 7:15 p.m., while LeRoy/Ostrander will travel to Faribault Thursday night to take on Bethlehem Academy, with tip-off also at 7:15 p.m.
