Area girls basketball roundup from Tuesday

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms girls’ basketball team took on the unbeaten and No. 6 in Class A- ranked Hayfield Vikings in the first round of the Hayfield Holiday Invitational Tuesday, and after trailing by 11 at the half, the Blossoms came out and cut the lead to single digits where it stayed for much of the half, but the Vikings were able to hold off the Blossoms’ comeback attempt in a 51-40 final.

Bobbie Bruns led the Blossoms with 10 points and six assists, Shawntee Snyder tallied eight points and led BP in rebounds with 13, Anna Pauly also registered eight points, Addison Doocy tallied five points, Haven Carlson added four points and Macy Lembke swished a 3-pointer for the Blossoms that brought them within three points with about six minutes to go, but Head Coach John Bruns reported that Hayfield answered with two big baskets late in the game to pick up the win.

Hayfield’s Kristen Watson led all scorers with 27 points, as Blooming Prairie fell to 3-4 overall with the loss.  The Blossoms were scheduled to take on Zumbrota/Mazeppa in the second round this (Wednesday) afternoon at 1:45 p.m.

In other action at the Hayfield Holiday Invitational Tuesday, the Grand Meadow Superlarks squared off with the Zumbrota/Mazeppa Cougars in the first round, and Kendyl Queensland led three Superlarks in double figures with 15 points as the Larks battled their way to a 47-40 win.

Forward River Landers tallied 14 points, Lauren Queensland tallied three 3-pointers on her way to 13 points, Rebecca Hoffman added three points and Leah Hanson scored two points for the Superlarks, who raised their record to 8-1 on the season with the win.

Grand Meadow was scheduled to meet Kenyon/Wanamingo in the second round this (Wednesday) afternoon at noon.

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics were also in action in the first round of the Hayfield Holiday Invitational Tuesday as they met the Knights of Kenyon/Wanamingo, and it was the Knights coming away with a 47-37 win.

Olivia Heard was the lone Athletic in double figures with 10 points Tuesday, Alana Rogne tallied nine points, Morgan Klankowski and Lissandra Ortiz each added five points, Avari Drennan and Kirsten Koopal each chipped in three points and Kearah Schafer scored two points for the Athletics, who fell to 1-7 on the season with the loss.

LP was scheduled to meet the host Hayfield Vikings in the second round this (Wednesday) afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
