The Austin City Council discussed design options for the upcoming construction project on Oakland Avenue and 1st Avenue SW with Assistant City Engineer Mitch Wenum during a work session following their first regularly scheduled meeting for 2024 Tuesday evening.  Austin Mayor Steve King spoke with KAUS and stated that the council approved an option that would feature an overall narrowing of the two one-ways by three feet and the widening of sidewalks…

Mayor King went on to state that the project has required he and the council to look to the future…

Final designs for the project are expected by October of 2024, with bidding to be completed by December of 2024, and construction starting in the spring of 2025.  The proposed project will span a total 25 blocks overall, and the work will include Oakland Avenue from 12th Street NW to 1st Street NE and 1st Avenue SW from 12th Street SW to Main Street.  The project is slated for completion in 2027, and more information on the project can be found on the city of Austin’s webpage at ci.austin.mn.us.
