Austin City Council approves reconstruction project and traffic study for 1st St. NW project at Monday meeting

The Austin City Council approved a reconstruction project for 2023 for 1st St. NW from Oakland Avenue West to 1st Drive NW, at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday evening, and they also approved a traffic study for major intersections on the project and to evaluate alternatives for construction.  Mayor King stated that it will be interesting to see what will become of three intersections on Main Street in the downtown area…

Assistant City Engineer Mitch Wenum stated to the council in a memo that all three of the signal lights are in poor condition and in need of replacement, or a new type of intersection control.  He went on to state that the intersections are all dependent on each other to function properly, so they will all be studied at the same time. Wenum went on to state that any recommended modifications to the Main Street intersections would take place at the same time as the 1st St. NW project in 2023.
