Austin City Council approves redistricting plan based on 2020 census at Monday meeting

The Austin City Council approved a redistricting plan for the city based on the 2020 census after a public hearing at their meeting Monday evening at the city council chambers.  Austin Mayor Steve King spoke with KAUS during the “Meet the Mayor” segment of “Wright Here, Right Now” and stated that the process will try to equalize the number of people in each of the three city wards for elections coming up this year…

Cities must complete redistricting by March 29th.  The city will now work with Mower County to inform voters of new voting locations if they have changed, and normal election year activities can then resume, with filings for elected offices beginning in May.
