Austin falls to Owatonna in Big 9 Conference baseball 13-8

The Austin Packers baseball team traveled to Darrts Park in Owatonna Tuesday for a Big 9 Conference matchup with the Huskies, and it was the hosts outslugging the Packers in a 13-8 win.

Teyghan Hovland helped to lead Austin offensivley by going 2 for 4 at the plate with a pair of RBI’s and two runs scored, Dakota Retterath and Bryce Fischer were both 2 for 3 with an RBI apiece and Retterath scoring a run, Nic Robertson was 1 for 4 with a pair of RBI’s and a run scored, Jordan Ransom was 0 for 4, but still knocked in two runs and scored another and Bray Klapperick, Riley Haugen and Jared Lillemon all added a hit apiece, with Klapperick and Lillemon both scoring a run.

Brady Kominek pitched the first 3 and 1/3rd innings for Austin and took the loss, giving up five Owatonna runs, four earned and five hits while striking out three and walking four.  Nic Robertson came on in relieft with one out in the fourth inning and gave up four runs, all earned, on two hits, walking two and registering no strikeouts and Ian Bundy pitched the last 2 2/3rds for the Packers and giving up the last four runs, all earned, on six hits, striking out two and walking one.

With the loss, Austin is now 2-4 on the season, and the Packers return to action at Dick Steltz Field at Riverland Community College Thursday against Rochester Mayo.  You’ll hear the game on AM 1480 KAUS, with the pre-game show starting at 4:50 p.m., and first pitch at 5:00 p.m.  You can also listen online at our website, myaustinminnesota.com, and also on the I Heart Radio and Radio.com apps.
