Austin man and his father charged for allegedly participating in January 6th riot at U.S. Capitol Building

An Austin man and his father have each been charged with four federal crimes for allegedly participating in the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.  

29-year old Daniel Johnson was arrested Friday morning by FBI agents and officers with the Austin Police Department. A criminal complaint filed by the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Columbia accuses Daniel Johnson and his father Daryl, of St. Ansgar, Iowa of entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building, violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

Following the January 6th riot, the FBI reported that they received three tips identifying Daniel and Daryl Johnson as being among those who entered the U.S. Capitol that day. Investigators indicated that they also recovered videos of the two men inside the Capitol.

The criminal complaint also lists Facebook posts and messages where Daniel and Daryl Johnson allegedly admitted to either being at or taking part in the riot.  Both men made their initial appearances in U.S. District Court on Friday afternoon.
