Austin man sentenced to supervised probation, fines and fees on felony robbery charge in Mower County District Court

An Austin man who aided in an attempted robbery of an Austin taxi driver late on the evening of January 24th,  2020, and who also was found to be in possession of drugs on two different occasions in 2021 and 2022 has been sentenced to supervised probation, fines and fees in Mower County District Court.

20-year old Jadon Dale Bentzin was convicted and sentenced Thursday to five years of supervised probation and $500 in fines and fees for a felony charge of simple robbery.  A 23-month prison sentence was stayed for five years if Bentzin complies with the terms of his probation, and Bentzin first pleaded guilty to the charge on October 3rd, 2022.  Felony charges for aiding and abetting 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon, and for aiding and abetting 1st degree aggravated robbery, inflict bodily harm in the case against Bentzin were dismissed with his guilty plea.

Bentzin was also convicted and sentenced Thursday to five years of supervised probation for a felony 5th degree drug possession charge stemming from an incident that occurred on October 20th, 2021.  Bentzin received a stay of adjudication in the case where if the defendant successfully completes their probation, a conviction for a felony is not entered on their criminal record, the charge or charges are dismissed, and their criminal record is cleared of any convictions.  Bentzin pleaded guilty to the charge on February 17th of this year, and a misdemeanor charge of dangerous weapons, metal knuckles or switchblade in the case against Bentzin was dismissed with his guilty plea.

Bentzin was also convicted and sentenced Thursday to five years of supervised probation for a felony charge of 5th degree drugs, possession of Schedule 1, 2, 3, 4, not small amount of marijuana stemming from an incident that took place in Austin on September 17th, 2022. Judge Jeffery Kritzer granted Bentzin another stay of adjudication on the charge, and he also pleaded guilty to the charge on February 17th.
