Austin Packers baseball falls in doubleheader sweep to Red Wing Monday
The Austin Packers baseball team was looking for a win or a pair of wins to close out the home portion of their regular season schedule Monday in a doubleheader at Dick Seltz Field versus Big 9 Conference and Section 1AAA rival Red Wing, and it was the Wingers using a big sixth inning in Game 1 to rally back for a 4-3 win, and a big first inning plus strong pitching in Game 2 to win 7-1 to complete the doubleheader sweep.
In Game 1, which was a conference game, Austin jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Wingers pushed across four unearned runs in the top of the sixth with an error, three hits and a walk and held on from there for the win. Nick Robertson led the Packers offensively by going 2 for 3 with a RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases, Dakota Retterath was 1 for 3 with a RBI and Lathan Wilson and Petyton Ransom were both 1 for 3. Robertson was the hard-luck loser on the mound for Austin as he pitched all six innings and gave up the four Red Wing runs, all unearned, on five hits, striking out four and walking three.
