Austin Packers baseball falls to Winona in doubleheader sweep by scores of 5-4 and 9-5

The Austin Packers baseball team played host to the Winona Winhawks in a Big 9 Conference doubleheader at Dick Seltz Field Tuesday, and, unfortunately for the Packers, Coach Jacob Nelson reported that although his club played otherwide solid baseball overall, the Packers had one inning in each game where multiple errors led to four or more unearned runs being scored by the Winhawks, who swept the twinbill by scores of 5-4 and 9-5 in five innings.
In Game 1, which featured Winona as the home team, both Isaac Osgood and Dakota Retterath were 1 for 3 with a RBI apiece, Nick Robertson had two hits in three trips to the plate with two runs scored and three stolen bases and Jared Lillemon went 2 for 3 for the Packers with a RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.  In Game 2, the Winhawks used only two hits to score eight unearned runs on their way to the victory, and offensively for Austin, Dakota Retterath continued to swing a hot bat for the Packers by going 2 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored, Jared Lillemon was 1 for 3 with a double, a RBI and a run scored and R.J. Wieseler went 1 for 2 with a pair of RBI’s, a run scored and a stolen base.
With the two losses, the Packers are now 3-4 in the Big 9 Conference and 4-7 overall.  Austin returns to action on Thursday at Bell Field in Faribault for a doubleheader with the Falcons, with the first game, a 7-inning conference game scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m., and a 5-inning, non-conference game to follow.
