Austin Packers baseball, softball fall to Winona Saturday

The Austin Packers baseball team played host to the Winona Winhawks for their home opener at Dick Seltz Field at Riverland Community College Saturday, and the Winhawks piled up 15 runs and 11 hits in a 15-1, 5-inning victory.

Teyghan Hovland, Blake Smith, Jordan Ransom, Cal Fox and Logan Murphy all tallied one hit apiece and Ransom scored the only run of the game for the Packers, who are now 1-1 on the young season, and they return to action Tuesday at Faribault versus the Falcons, with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

The Austin Packers softball team was on the road at Winona for a mantinee Saturday afternoon, and it was the Winhawks coming away with a 16-1 win in four innings.

Austin’s run came in the top of the 2nd inning on an RBI single from freshman Kailee Aldrich.  The Packers are 0-2 on the season, and they are scheduled to be back in action against Faribault at Todd Park Tuesday afternoon, with first pitch at 5:00 p.m.
