Austin Packers baseball’s rally falls short in 15-11 loss to Rochester Century Monday

The Austin Packers baseball team was looking to snap a six-game losing streak in Rochester Monday versus the Century Panthers in a Big 9 Conference matchup, and although the Packers tried to rally back from an early 14-2 deficit, their comeback effort fell short in a 15-11 loss.

Century scored early and often Monday with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, three in the second and six in the third after Austin had scored two runs of their own in the top half of the inning.  The Packers’ comeback attempt started with four runs in the top of the fourth, and they added one in the fifth and three in the sixth to cut the Panther lead at that time to 15-10.  The Packers were able to tally a single run in the top of the seventh, but the Panthers were able to weather the storm from there as they were able to retire the Packers from there to earn the win.

Offensively for Austin, Isaac Stromlund helped to lead the way by going 3 for 4 with two runs scored, Bryce Fischer was 2 for 4 with a run scored and a stolen base, Jared Lillemon went 1 for 4 with a double and three RBI’s, Peyton Ransom was 1 for 4 for the Packers with three runs knocked in and another scored, Ethan Anderson went 1 for 2 with a RBI and three runs scored, both Isaiah Conway and Nic Robertson were 1 for 2 with a run scored, Lathan Wilson was 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored and R.J. Wieseler went 1 for 5 with a run scored in a game that featured 25 hits between the two teams, 13 for Century and 12 for Austin and ten combined errors, six on the Packers and four on the Panthers.

With the loss, Austin is now 4-11 overall and 3-8 in the Big 9 Conference.  and they return to action Thursday at Dick Seltz Field versus I-90 rival Albert Lea.  You’ll hear the game live on AM 1480 KAUS, with the pre-game show getting underway at 4:45 p.m., and first pitch at 5:00 p.m.
