Austin Packers boys basketball team falls to Rochester Century 62-46 Tuesday night

The Austin Packers boys basketball team was looking to get back on the winning track at Rochester Century High School in a Big 9 Conference matchup versus the Panthers Tuesday night, but it was the Panthers pulling away from a 36-26 halftime lead to win 62-46.

The Packers were 19 of 48 shooting in the game for 40%, while the Panthers were 25 for 51 for 49%, and Austin was 6 for 21 from behind the 3-point arc for 29%, while Century was 4 for 15 for 27%.  The Packers made only four trips to the free-throw line and hit two foul shots, while the Panthers were 8 for 11 for 73%, and Century held a slight rebounding edge at 29-25, plus they also forced 13 Austin turnovers while turning the ball over themselves six times.  The Packers were led offensively by senior guard Jack Lang, who drained four of the squad’s six 3-pointers on his way to 14 points, senior forward Buai Duop tallied 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, senior guard Manny Guy chipped in seven points, senior guard Ater Manyuon contributed six points, and Morries Jabateh, Jacob Herrick and Dane Mitchell all scored three points apiece, with Jabateh pulling in six boards.

With the loss, Austin is now 12-7 overall on the season and 10-5 in the Big 9 Conference, and the Packers will look to snap a two-game losing streak at Albert Lea Friday night, with the varsity tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
