Austin Packers boys’ hockey falls 6-2 at Red Wing Thursday evening

The Austin Packers boys’ hockey team started the 2022 portion of their schedule at Prairie Island Arena in Red Wing Thursday evening versus the Wingers, and Jorgen Ulvenes tallied a pair of goals, one of them short-handed, and the Wingers jumped out to a 3-0 lead on their way to a 6-2 win.

Cooper Guttormson cut the Red Wing lead to 3-1 with a goal at 4:40 of the second period, with an assist to Isaac Stromlund, and Grady Carney tallied the other goal of the game for the Packers, a power play goal at 12;46 of the third period, with an assist to Dylan Regenscheid.

Austin was 1 for 5 on the power play, while Red Wing went 1 for 2, and Ethan Knox made 43 saves in facing 48 shots for the Packers in net.  Wingers goalie Dixon Ehlers turned away 39 of the 41 shots he faced to earn the win between the pipes.

With the loss, Austin is now 0-4 in the Big 9 Conference and 0-5 overall.  They return to action Saturday afternoon at Riverside Arena versus Rochester Lourdes, with face-off at 1:00 p.m.
