Austin Packers boys soccer falls to Rochester John Marshall 2-1 Tuesday

The Austin Packers boys soccer team was looking for win number two in a row Tuesday evening at John Drews Field at Rochester John Marshall versus the Rockets, and a goal for the Rockets early in the 78th minute broke a 1-1 tie to give JM a 2-1 win.

The match was scoreless after one half of play, but a goal from John Marshall’s Mechwa Meermarew early in the 40th minute put the Rockets ahead, 1-0.  Austin sophomore midfielder Leonardo Hernandez tied the match at 1 apiece with a goal in the early in the 63rd minute, but a header by JM’s Nathan Kopecky with just under two minutes to go found the back of the net to give the Rockets the win.

With the loss, the Packers are now 2-7-1 in the Big 9 Conference and 4-10-1 overall, and Austin will look to close out the regular season with a win at home Thursday evening against the Mankato West Scarlets.  You’ll hear the match on AM 1480 KAUS, with the pre-game show on the air at 6:50 p.m., and kickoff from Art Hass Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
