Austin Packers boys tennis team competes at Big 9 Conference meet Saturday

The Austin Packers boys’ tennis team traveled to the Rochester Outdoor Tennis Center Saturday for the Big 9 Conference tournament, and the lone placewinner for the Packers was Joey Schammel at No. 1 singles as he advanced out of the quarterfinals via default by Brandon Petricka of Faribault, but then fell to eventual champion Tej Bhagra of Rochester Mayo in the semi-finals 6-0, 6-1.  Schammel then fell to McLean Pilcher of Owatonna in the 3rd place match.

The Packers are right back into action today in the Section 1AA team tournament quarterfinals, as ninth-seeded Austin travels to No. 8 seed Winona, with the action set to start at 4:30 p.m.  The winner moves on to play No. 1 seed Rochester Mayo at Mayo High School Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
