Austin Packers boys tennis team downs Winona Cotter 4-3 Monday

The Austin Packers boys’ tennis team played host to the Ramblers of Winona Cotter in a non-conference matchup Monday at the Wescott Athletic Complex, and on a windy and sometimes rainy day, a win by Cole Hebrink at No. 2 singles provided the Packers with the winning point in a 4-3 victory.

Head Coach Jeff Anderson stated that play was stopped at one point for approximately 10 minutes because of the rain, but Joey Schammel was able to earn his eighth win of the season as he swept Jon Besek of Cotter 6-2, 6-0.  Other wins for Austin Monday came from No. 4 singles where Owen Carroll downed Ema Stankova of the Ramblers in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, and Marcos Castro and Laython Stenzel played together for the first time at No. 3 doubles and defeated Irene Oliveras and Shauntel Bebout of Cotter in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.  Hebrink won a pair of tiebreakers in defeated Hamilton Brewer of Cotter at No. 2 singles for the winning point 7-6 (3) and 7-6 (6).

The Packers are right back into action today (Tuesday) versus Red Wing in the Big 9 Conference, with the action starting at 4:30 p.m.
