Austin Packers girls’ basketball rolls to 70-46 season-opening win at Kasson/Mantorville Tuesday evening

The Austin Packers girls’ basketball team was on the road at Kasson to open the 2021-2022 season Tuesday against Section 1AAA rival Kasson/Mantorville, and the last time the two teams met, the Packers scored a 62-57 upset win over the Komets in the section semi-finals on their way to an eventual section title and a berth in the State Class AAA girls’ basketball tournament.  Austin was at it again Tuesday evening, as senior guard and 1,000+ point scorer Hope Dudycha led four Packers in double figures with 21 points as Austin downed the Komets 70-46.

Austin’s other veteran returnees to the lineup for this season helped to lead the way to a victory Tuesday evening as Olivia Walsh added 14 points, Emma Dudycha chipped in 13 points, Cassidy Shute contributed 10 points, Ruby Kvam and Reana Schmitt each tallied five points and Kaylee Bowman scored two points for the Packers, who bolted out to a 35-15 lead at the half on their way to the win.

Austin will return to action Friday night for their home and Big 9 Conference opener against the Rochester John Marshall Rockets, with the varsity tip-off from Ove Berven Gym at 7:30 p.m.
