Austin Packers girls’ golf team competes in Section 1AAA meet in Cannon Falls Tuesday

The Austin Packers girls’ golf team hit the road to Cannon Golf Club in Cannon Falls for Day 1 of the Section 1AAA meet Tuesday, and in the team portion of the competition, the Packers shot a first-day total of 420, which was good for 9th place.  Lakeville South had a commanding lead after Day 1 with a team total of 355, 14 strokes better than second place Northfield at 369, while Albert Lea was back in third at 380.

Individually for Austin, seventh-graders Ailani Thiravong and Sydney Lewis were able to move on to Day 2, as Thiravong was 16th overall with a 97, and Lewis was 23rd as she carded a 102.  Lakeville South’s Kelsi Mauzy was first after Day 1 with a round of 77, followed by Albert Lea’s Alyssa Jensen in second with an 83.

The section tournament wraps up today in Cannon Falls, with the State Class AAA golf meet coming up at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids Tuesday, June 14th and Wednesday, June 15th.
