Austin Packers girls’ hockey shuts out Minnesota River 5-0 Tuesday evening

The Austin Packers girls’ hockey team was looking to snap a five-game winless streak in Le Sueur Tuesday evening versus the Minnesota River Bulldogs, and Megan Schultz and Kate Holtz each scored two goals, plus goaltender Kyia Radford-Garcia turned aside all 24 shots she faced in a 5-0 Packer win.

Schultz scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal on the power play at 11:54 of the first period, with assists to Holtz and Sara Wangen to give Austin a 1-0 lead.  Holtz made it 2-0 Packers with a goal at 13:50 of the period, with assists to Izzy Heman and Samantha Krueger, and Schultz tallied the only goal of the second period at 15:34, with an assist to Holtz for her third point of the game to that point.  Holtz scored her second goal of the game at 9:11 of the third period to make the score 4-0, and Camille Dunlap added a goal at 12:16 of the period, her first of the season with assists to Sara Wangen and Cassidy Davidson for the 5-0 final.

Austin was 1 for 1 on the power play for the game, while the Bulldogs were 1 for 2.  Each team had 24 shots on goal, with Radford-Garcia kicking out all 24 shots for the shutout win, while Katherine Gurrola made 19 saves for the Bulldogs.

Austin moves to 3-5 overall on the season with the win, and the Packers return to action Friday night at Riverside Arena versus the 8-1 Luverne Cardinals, with face-off at 7:00 p.m.
