Austin Packers girls’ swimming and diving team competes in Section 1A True Team Meet in New Prague Saturday

The Austin Packers girls swimming and diving team traveled to New Prauge Saturday for the Section 1A True Team Meet, and it was the hometown Trojans earning first place with 1,433 team points.  Mankato East was back in second Saturday with 1,258 points, just ahead of rival Mankato West, who finished third with a total of 1,226.5 points, Austin was fourth with 1,068 points, followed by Winona/Winona Cotter in fifth, St. Peter in sixth, Faribault seventh and Tri-City United came in eighth.

High finishers Saturday for Austin included Olivia Walsh, who took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.99 seconds, and she also finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.38.  Gracie Greenman was second for the Packers in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:39.05, and she also took second in the 100 backstroke with a final time of 1:04.92.  Austin’s 200 freestyle relay team of Anna Kossman, Alivia Hemry, Abbie Boysen and Olivia Walsh finished only .65 behind first-place Mankato West with a time of 1:44.88, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Walsh, Hemry, Boysen and Gracie Greenman was third Saturday with a time of 3:53.25.  Reese Norton and Rachel Engelstad came in fourth and fifth, respectively in 1-meter diving, as Norton tallied a final score of 340.30, and Engelstad compiled a score of 331.25, and Austin’s 200 medley relay team of Gracie Greenman, Kaylee Butts, Jaycie Pollak and Addison Tobak took fifth with a final time of 2:05.14.

The Packers will take to the road to Winona Tuesday evening for their final regular-season dual meet for 2022, with the action scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.  Austin will then travel to the Big 9 swimming and diving meet Friday at Saturday in Northfield.
