The Austin Packers girls’ swimming and diving team was in action at Bud Higgins Pool at Ellis Middle School for a fifth straight meet Tuesday evening versus Red Wing in the Big 9 Conference, and it was the Packers edging the Wingers for the win 95-91.
Austin’s 200 meter relay team of Madelynn Murley, Kaylee Butts, Olivia Walsh and Alivia Henry got the Packers off to a strong start by taking first with a time of 2:02.07, Murley was first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:12.00 and Sydney Tobak was third for the Packers in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:41.53. Alivia Henry and Mackenzie Carter were second and third, respectively in the 50 freestyle with times of 27.09 and 27.32. The Packers swept the top three spots in 1 meter diving, with Rachel Engelstad taking first with a total of 179.15 points, Reese Norton was second with a total of 158.45 and Alayna Kennedy was third for Austin with 158.20 points.
Sydney Tobak was third for the Packers in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:15.39, and Olivia Walsh took first in the 100 freestyle with a final time of 56.90 seconds. Gracie Greenman and Mackenzie Carter were 1-2 for Austin in the 500 freestyle with times of 6:08.43 and 6:08.73, respectivley, and Austin’s 200 freestyle relay team of Kaylee Butts, Olivia Walsh, Abbie Boysen and Alivia Henry were second with a time of 1:49.91.
Madelynn Murley and Anna Kossman were second and third for the Packers in the 100 backstroke with times of 1:08.57 and 1:13.25, and Kaylee Butts was first in the 100 breaststroke with a final time of 1:16.69. And, Austin’s 400 freestyle relay team of Abby Boysen, Lucy Lagervall, Madelynn Murley and Anna Kossman was first with a time of 4:05.28.
Austin returns to action at Bud Higgins Pool Friday night as they will play host to the Section True Team Meet, with Albert Lea, Faribault, Mankato East, Mankato West, New Prague, Red Wing, St. Peter, Tri-City United and Winona all competing along with the Packers. The diving portion of the two-day competition gets underway at 5:30 p.m. Friday evening, and the swimming portion of the meet will start Saturday at Bud Higgins Pool at 1:00 p.m.
