Austin Packers girls swimming and diving team opens 2022 season with 91-68 win at Tri-City United

The Austin Packers girls’ swimming and diving team took to the road for their first dual meet of the 2022 season as they traveled to Montgomery to take on Tri-City United, and it was the Packers putting together an all-around dominating performance on their way to a 91-68 win.

Austin started out strong in the second event of the evening, the 200 medley relay, by sweeping the top two spots as the team of Gracie Greenman, Sydney Tobak, Jaycie Pollak and Anita Rao were first with a time of 2:12.89, and the team of Anna Kossman, Addison Walsh, Addison Tobak and Leah Pischke took second with a time of 2:14.50.  Abbie Boysen and Madison Tauger, a pair of eighth graders for the Packers were second and third, respectively, in the 200 freestyle with times of 2:12.88 and 2:35.56, and Austin swept the top three spots in the 200 individual medley as Gracie Greenman took first with a time of 2:35.75, Addison Walsh was second at 2:48.74 and Jaycie Pollak finished third with a time of 2:51.74.

Alivia Hemry, a freshman for Austin took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.65 seconds, and teammate Sydney Tobak was third with a time of 29.99.  A highlight of the evening for the Packers was the 1 meter diving competition where Austin swept the top three spots with impressive scores.  Alayna Kennedy took first with a total score of 220.15 points, Reese Norton was second with a total of 198.20 and Rachel Engelstad was thrid for the Packers with a score of 188.35.  Jaycie Pollak, Sydney Tobak and Madison Tauger swept the top three spots for Austin in the 100 butterfly with times of 1:15.82, 1:21.95 and 1:25.26, and Alivia Hemry and Anna Kossman were 1-2 in the 100 freestyle with times of 1:00.48 and 1:03.23.  Other leaders in the win for Austin included Abbie Boysen taking first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:12.79, and teammate Leah Pischke was third with a final time of 6:49.93.

The Packers return to action Thursday evening in their first Big 9 Conference dual meet of the season at Albert Lea versus the Tigers, with the action scheduled to start at 6:30.  The home opener for Austin at Bud Higgins Pool will be versus Rochester Century on Thursday, September 8th.
