Austin Packers girls’ track and field team second at home invitational Tuesday
The Austin Packers girls’ track and field team played host to a four-team, Big 9 Conference invitational on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at the Wescott Athletic Complex, and it was the Rochester Century Panthers taking home first place with a team total of 121.5, followed by Austin in second with 54.5 points, Winona was third with 47 points followed by Red Wing in fourth with 46 points.
High finishers for Austin included the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Cassidy Shute, Nadia Vaughn, Lauren Schmidt and Marissa Shute, who took third with a time of 10:57.72, Briella Wempner was third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.15, the Packers’ 4 x 200 meter relay team of Rachel Engelstab, Olivia Walsh, Briella Wempner and Muye Ojulu was second with a time of 2:00.43 and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Kendall Gilster, Abauo Abella, Briella Wempner and Rachel Engelstab was second Tuesday afternoon with a time of 59.14.
Agony Kwot, was third for Austin in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:09.31, Emily Klapperich turned in a third place finish for the Packers in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 57.84, Marissa Shute was first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:17.51, nearly 30 seconds better than Sophia Trabuco of Rochester Century who was second with a time of 12:45.23 and Austin’s 4 x 400 meter relay team of Cassidy Shute, Nadia Vaughn Muye Ojulu and Agony Kwot was third with a time of 4:38.49.
The Packers went 1-2 in the high jump as Olivia Walsh cleared 5′, which was good for first place and teammate Toria Strampe cleared 4’8″, good for second place, Sara Wangen was second in the pole vault as she cleared 7,’ and Olivia Walsh took second in the triple jump with an effort of 33′ 11.”
Austin honored the nine seniors on the squad who were making their final appearance at the Wescott Athletic Complex Tuesday, and the seniors honored after the meet included Abauo Abella, Emily Curtis, Aual Makair, Bagap Omot, Kaitlyn Ronning, Emma Rosheim, Lauren Schmidt, Toria Strampe and Briella Wempner.
