The Austin Packers wrestling team only entered four scoring wrestlers on varsity on Saturday at the 27th annual Cannon Falls Invitational, but still ended up placing 8th out of 15 teams.
All four wrestlers made it to the placing rounds with Samuel Winkels leading the way with his second 1st place tournament finish in a row at Heavyweigt and second consecutive at this event. He rattled off three falls, including over Aidan Gasper of Dover/Eyota in the finals and currently sits at a 21-1 record on the season.  Freshman Ismael Nieto took 5th place at 133 pounds, going 2-1 on the day with two falls, including a pin of Mosies Gonzales of Woodbury at 2:53 in the fifth place match. Antonio Garica was 3-2 on the day at 152 pounds and took 6th place with three pins, and William Mullenbach was 2-2 on the day at 139 pounds with two falls in a 6th place finish as well.  Head Coach Jacob Nelson indicated that it was also a great day for Austin JV wrestlers as well, with six wrestlers placing in the top two.
Austin returns to action Friday evening at Packer Gym as they will host a Big 9 Conference triangular with Albert Lea and Mankato West, with the action scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. that evening.
