Austin Packers wrestling team competes at Cannon Falls Invitational Saturday

The Austin Packers wrestling team only entered four scoring wrestlers on varsity on Saturday at the 27^th annual Cannon Falls Invitational, but still ended up placing 8^th out of 15 teams.

All four wrestlers made it to the placing rounds with Samuel Winkels leading the way with his second 1^st place tournament finish in a row at Heavyweigt and second consecutive at this event. He rattled off three falls, including over Aidan Gasper of Dover/Eyota in the finals and currently sits at a 21-1 record on the season.  Freshman Ismael Nieto took 5^th place at 133 pounds, going 2-1 on the day with two falls, including a pin of Mosies Gonzales of Woodbury at 2:53 in the fifth place match. Antonio Garica was 3-2 on the day at 152 pounds and took 6th place with three pins, and William Mullenbach was 2-2 on the day at 139 pounds with two falls in a 6th place finish as well.  Head Coach Jacob Nelson indicated that it was also a great day for Austin JV wrestlers as well, with six wrestlers placing in the top two.

Austin returns to action Friday evening at Packer Gym as they will host a Big 9 Conference triangular with Albert Lea and Mankato West, with the action scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. that evening.
