Austin Police investigating theft of a pistol from a vehicle in northwest Austin Tuesday evening

The Austin Police Department is investigating after the theft of a handgun from a vehicle in northwest Austin Tuesday evening.  

Austin Police Captain Todd Clennon reported that an officer took the theft report at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday evening.  The victim told the officer that she was at a residence at 1310 8th Avenue Northwest at approximately 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening when she observed that her 2014 Kia Soul  had the passenger side door standing ajar.  The victim went on to state that she looked inside the vehicle and observed that the contents of her center console had been taken out and scattered in the front seat. Upon further inspection, Captain Clennon stated that the victim observed that her black Glock 19 9mm pistol had been stolen.  The victim indicated to police that she did not have the serial number or purchase information, but did state that she had purchased the firearm at Cabela’s.  The victim went on to tell officers that she would contact Cabela’s to try and obtain the pistol’s serial number.

 Clennon stated that here are no known suspects at this time.. The serial number of the firearm is unknown at this time, and anyone with information on the theft is urged to contact Austin Police at 437-9400.  Captain Clennon went on to remind the public to always properly secure your firearms,  as he noted that there have been several firearms stolen from vehicles around Austin in the last few weeks.
