Austin Schools among 80 in rural Minnesota to receive grants from the Minnesota Department of Commerce for the Solar for Schools Program

Around 80 schools in Greater Minnesota will be receiving $7.5 million in grants from the state Commerce Department to go solar. Spokeswoman Mo Schriner says the benefits are many: 

Among the schools that will be receiving grant funding are Austin, Albert Lea, Byron, Rochester Public Schools, Plainview-Elgin-Millville and Stewartville in our KAUS listening area.  Schriner says they’ve received more than $11.5 million in requests from school districts, so Commerce is asking Minnesota lawmakers this session to approve an additional $3 million for Solar for Schools grants.
