Austin VFW Post #1216 baseball team falls to Rochester Spartans 12-2 Thursday evening

The Austin VFW Post #1216 baseball team was back on the road Thursday evening for a game in Rochester versus the Spartans, and it was the Spartans using a nine-run bottom of the third inning to break the game open on their way to a 12-2, 6-inning win.

Austin led 1-0 after a half-inning, but it was Rochester coming back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and nine in the third to take a 11-1 lead.  Austin’s only other run came in the top of the sixth to make the score 11-2, but a run for the Spartans in the bottom half of the inning ended the game via the 10-run rule.

Offensively for Post #1216, Ethan Anderson picked up two of Austin’s nine hits in the game in three official trips to the plate with a RBI, Dane Schara was a perfect 2 for 2, Cooper Napton was 2 for 3 with the other run knocked in for Austin, Sam Oelfke and Landon Meyer were both 1 for 3 with a run scored apiece and Isaac Nelson and Logyn Brooks also added hits for Post #1216.

With the loss, Austin is now 3-3 on the season, and Post #1216 returns to action at Marcusen Park Saturday for a doubleheader with Winona, with the first game of the twinbill getting underway at 11:00 a.m.
