Austin woman taken into custody after report of shots fired in southeast Austin early Tuesday morning

An Austin woman was taken into custody after a report of shots fired in southeast Austin early this (Tuesday) morning.

The Austin Police Department, with assistance from the Mower County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of two to three shots fired in the area of 4th St. and 6th Ave. SE at 12:53 a.m. this (Tuesday) morning.  Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported that officers located a residence in the 600 block of 6th Ave. SE that had been struck by bullets that were believed to be buckshot rounds.  No injuries were reported, and McKichan stated that an officer responding to the incident attempted to stop a white Chrysler 200 driving erratically that had gone through a stop sign.  It was determined that the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle involved in the firearms incident, and Chief McKichan stated that when the vehicle was pulled over, a male subject exited via the passenger side door and fled on foot.  The officer who pulled the vehicle over was able to identify the subject who fled the scene, but he was able to elude arrest.

McKichan went on to report that when the male subject fled from the scene, the female driver of the vehicle, later identified  as 19-year old Ameisha Gunsallus of Austin fled from the stop in the car.  A shotgun that was later found to have been stolen out of Waseca County was located at the scene of the traffic stop, and Chief McKichan stated that Gunsallus and the vehicle were later located.  Gunsallus was taken into custody at that time and transported to the Mower County jail, and the case remains under active investigation.
