Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball downs Southland 9-2 in first round of Sub-Section 1A West tournament

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team, the No. 4 seed in the Sub-Section 1A West tournament played host to No. 5 seeded Southland Tuesday, and the Blossoms parlayed a four-run bottom of the second and a strong start from Allison Krohnberg in the circle to down the Rebels 9-2.

Blooming Prairie led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the second when they opened things up with the four runs to take a 6-1 lead.  The Blossoms added another run in the third to push their lead to 7-1, and after Southland tallied a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-2, BP pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final 9-2 score.

Blooming Prairie was also aided by six Rebel errors in the game, and offensivley they rapped out eight hits, including Maren Forystek, who was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Lexi Steckelberg was 2 for 4 with a run scored, Lauren Schammel went 1 for 4 for the Blossoms and led the club in RBI’s with three, Macy Lembke and Melaine Winzenburg each picked up one hit and although she was 0 for 3, Allison Krohnberg helped her cause in the circle with a walk and two RBI’s.

Krohnberg delivered a strong start in the circle for the Blossoms as she went the distance and gave up the two Southland runs, one earned on six hits, striking out eight and issuing no walks.  The win puts Blooming Prairie up against top-seeded Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in Waterville on Thursday, with first pitch at 5:00 p.m.
