Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball falls to Pine Island 13-3 in five innings in Section 1AA West playoffs

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team, the No. 3 seed in the Section 1AA West playoffs played host to sixth-seeded Pine Island in opening round action Monday, and it was the underdog Panthers jumping out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and never looking back from there on their way to a 13-3, five-inning win.

Blooming Prairie halved the Pine Island lead with three runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-3, but the Panthers, who belted out three doubles among their 13 hits in the game came right back with three in the top of the fourth and four more runs in the fifth on their way to the win.  Offensively for the Blossoms, Shawntee Snyder went 1 for 3 with a home run, two RBI’s and a run scored, Bobbie Bruns was a perfect 3 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored, leadoff hitter Macy Lembke went 1 for 3 with a run scored, and Lauren Schammel and Lexi Steckelberg added the other hits in the game for the Blossoms.

With the loss, the Blossoms are now 12-7 overall on the season, and they will now have to try to battle their way back through the elimination bracket in the Section 1AA tournament, with a game versus Cannon Falls in Rochester at their fastpitch complex at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.  A win would put Blooming Prairie right back into action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, while a loss would end their season.
