The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team took to the road Tuesday in search of win number two in a row at Gopher Conference rival Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, and it was the Blossoms breaking the game open with four runs in the top of the 7th inning in an 8-2 win.

The Blossoms scored one in the first and two in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings of play before the Bulldogs scored a single run to cut the lead to 3-1.  The two squads each scored a single run in the fourth inning for a 4-2 Blooming Prairie lead before the Blossoms pushed four runs across in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

Junior second baseman Rachel Winzenburg helped to lead BP at the plate Tuesday by going 1 for 3 with a sacrifice fly and three RBI’s, plus a run scored, junior shortstop Macy Lembke was 2 for 4 out of the leadoff spot in the batting order with a triple, two runs scored and three stolen bases, junior left fielder Lily Schammel was 1 for 4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, junior catcher Layla Lembke went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI’s and a run scored, senior pitcher Haven Carlson picked up one hit, a double in three trips to the plate with two runs knocked in, senior first baseman Lexi Steckelberg was also 1 for 3 with an RBI, and sophomore center fielder Ella Smith went 1 for 3 with a run scored in the win.

Carlson went the distance in the circle for the Blossoms and gave up the two Bulldog runs, one earned, on three hits, striking out seven and walking six.  Blooming Prairie wound up with eight runs on nine hits, one error and five runners left on base, while JWP tallied the two runs on three hits, and they committed four errors in the contest.

The Blossoms are now 2-1 on the season, and Blooming Prairie will be back at home for their next game, another Gopher Conference matchup with Kenyon-Wanamingo, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
