Blooming Prairie girls’ basketball downed by Medford 47-41

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms girls’ basketball team were in search of their fifth win in their last six games at home Thursday night in a non-conferene matchup with Medford, as the first game between the two squads this season was for conference standings.  The Tigers led 18-12 at the end of a low-scoring first half, and they were able to sink 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch to hold off a comeback attempt by the Blossoms in a 47-41 win.

Coach John Bruns reported that the biggest story of the game was BP struggling to put the ball in the hoop, especially around the rim, and another huge factor in the outcome was at the free-throw line where the Blossoms shot 26 free throws to 12 for Medford, but they made only 11 of them while the Tigers sank nine of their attempts for 75%.

Haven Carlson and Bobbie Bruns led the way offensively for Blooming Prairie, as Carslon registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Bruns also scored 12 points and dished out seven assists.  Anna Pauly tallied five points and nine rebounds, Shawntee Snyder and Chloe McCarthy each added four points and Addison Doocy and Macy Lembke each scored two points for the Blossoms, who fell to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the Gopher Conference.

BP is right back into action tonight at home versus Kenyon/Wanamingo in a Gopher Conference matchup, with the varsity tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
