If we really want to stop the further spread of the coronavirus, we might have to get used to wearing masks full time.
According to health experts, keeping your face covered at home, even if you’re not showing symptoms, could prevent nearly 80 percent of all cases, especially among family members.
Writing in the journal BMJ Global Health, the researchers learned, “Face mask use by the primary case and family contacts before the primary case developed symptoms was 79 percent effective in reducing transmission.”
The study, conducted in Bejing, found that those in close contact with family members under the same roof were 18 times more likely to transmit the virus, calling household transmission, “a major driver of epidemic growth.”
