Highway 56 remains closed and detoured near Taopi after Tuesday evening storms

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported this morning that Highway 56 remains closed and detoured near Taopi in Mower County as utility crews continue to work to reestablish the power line connections that were downed during an overnight storm.

The highway is expected to reopen to traffic early Wednesday afternoon. The highway has been closed since about 1 a.m., Wednesday after storms knocked down power lines across the state highway at Taopi.

The detour is Mower County Road 7 north to Mower County Road 3 east to Mower County Road 8 south.

MnDOT will announce the reopening of Highway 56 via its social media.
