Individuals from Austin Packers boys swimming and diving team compete in State Class A meet at University of Minnesota

Several individuals from the Austin Packers boys swimming and diving team competed at the State Class A Meet at the Jean C. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota over the weekend, and senior Winston Walkup qualified as all-state by taking eighth place with a time of 54.83 seconds, and freshman teammate Brent Dahl took ninth in the B-final with a time of 54.66 seconds.

Other individuals for Austin who competed at state meet included Riley Ferguson, who took 17th in the 1-meter diving competition, the 200 medley relay team of Brent Dahl, Winston Walkup, Joey Hilkin and Kenny Cabeen came in 10th with a time of 1:39.65, and Zach Evenson finished 15th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.44.  Walkup was 12th for the Packers in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:02.03, Cabeen finished 17th in the 50 freestyle, and Hilkin finished 26th in the 100 butterfly.

Kenny Cabeen earned a 12th place finish in the 100 freestyle for Austin with a final time of 48.83 seconds, Brent Dahl tied for 13th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:59.86, the club’s 200 freestyle relay team of Lucas Meyers, Joey Hilkin, Zach Evenson and Kenny Cabeen took 11th over the weekend with a time of 1:30.61, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Evenson, Brent Dahl, Lucas Meyers and Winston Walkup finished 18th.

In the team competition, Austin finished in 12th place overall with 61.5 points.  Breck/Blake was the runaway team winner with 408 points, with St. Thomas Academy a distant second with 204 points.
