An Iowa man was injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 65 in Freeborn County early Tuesday morning.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2007 Buick Rendezvous being driven by 49-year old Frederick Girouard of Northwood, Iowa, and a 2007 Ford Fusion being driven by 21-year old Francisco Gabriel Martinez, also of Northwood, Iowa were both northbound on Highway 65 at approximately 5:53 a.m. Tuesday morning when the two vehicles collided near milepost 302 in Shell Rock Township.

Girouard sustained non-life threatening injuries in the accident, and he was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Albert Lea for treatment, while Martinez was uninjured.  The State Patrol reported that the highway was covered in snow and ice at the time of the accident, and they added that both parties involved were wearing their seatbelts.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Glenville Fire and Rescue, plus Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service all assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene early Tuesday morning.
