LeRoy/Ostrander downs Houston in Southeast Conference boys’ basketball 71-58 Monday evening

The LeRoy/Ostrander boys’ basketball team was looking to move over .500 Monday evening as they played host to the Houston Hurricanes in a Southeast Conference tilt, and Tanner Olson erupted for 36 points as the Cardinals kept the Hurricanes winless on the season in a 71-58 win.

Besides his 36 point effort, Olson also added six rebounds, Levi Royston was also in double figures for the Cardinals with 10 points, Gavin Sweeny chipped in seven points, Layne Bird added six points, Camden Hungerhold tallied four points, Chase Johnson added three points, Kyle Kasel and Carter Sweeney each scored two points and Hayden Sass scored one point for the Cardinals, who pulled away in the second half after leading by only two points 28-26 at the half.  The Cardinals also helped their cause at the free throw line as they shot 30 free throws compared to 19 for Houston, draining 20 of them, plus the Cardinals shut out the Hurricanes from behind the 3-point arc, while hitting six 3-pointers of their own.

With the win, their second in a row, LeRoy/Ostrander is now 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Southeast Conference, while Houston fell to 0-8.  The Cardinals will wind up a three-game homestand Thursday night against Lanesboro in the Southeast Conference, with varsity tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
