Local legislator talks about bill to refill Minnesota’s Unemployment Insurance Fund and to send $750 COVID “hero bonuses” to front-line workers

Governor Tim Walz late Friday signed a bill to refill the state’s Unemployment Insurance Fund and send 750-dollar COVID “hero bonuses” to over 600 thousand front-line workers,  after the House and Senate both approved a compromise bill last Thursday afternoon.  KAUS News spoke with State District 27A Representative Peggy Bennett, a Republican from Albert Lea who stated that she was glad to see the issue resolved with compromise from both sides…


 

The State of Minnesota is setting up a website for front-line workers to keep track of their COVID “hero pay” bonuses. The frontline sectors include long-term care and home care, health care, emergency responders, public health, social service, and regulatory service courts and corrections, child care, schools, including charter schools, state schools and higher education, food service, including production, processing, preparation, sale and delivery, retail, including sales, fulfillment, distribution and delivery, temporary shelters and hotels, building services, including maintenance, janitorial and security, public transit, ground and air transportation services, manufacturing and vocational rehabilitation.
