Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball sweeps doubleheader from Schaeffer Academy Monday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team played host to the Schaeffer Academy Lions in a Southeast Conference doubleheader Monday at Marcusen Park, and the Athletics rolled to a pair of lopsided wins to stay unbeaten on the season, 19-3 in five innings in game one and 17-3 in five innings in game two.

In game one, LP led 6-3 heading into the bottom of the 4th when they plated 13 runs to crack the game wide open.  The Athletics belted out 15 hits in the win, led by Sam Nelson, who was a perfect 4 for 4 with a double, a triple, four RBI’s and four runs scored, starting pitcher Jed Nelson was also 4 for 4 with a double, a triple, four RBI’s and three runs scored, Zach Bollingberg went 2 for 3 with two RBI’s and three runs scored, Cole Walter was 1 for 3 with a RBI and three runs scored, Mac Nelson went 1 for 3 for LP with a run knocked in and two runs scored, Jake Truckenmiller was 1 for 3 with two RBI’s, Jayden Lewis was 1 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored and Landon Meyer was 1 for 3 with a pair of runs scored.

Jed Nelson picked up the complete game win on the mound for Lyle/Pacelli as he pitched the five innings and gave up the three Lion runs, one earned on three hits, striking out seven and walking five.

In game two, the Athletics offense picked up right where it left off in game one as they scored seven in the first, five in the second and three in the third on their way to the 17-3, five-inning win.

LP belted out 16 hits in game two,  with Cole Walter going a perfect 3 for 3 with a double, a RBI and a run scored, Sam Nelson was 2 for 3 with a double, a RBI and three runs scored, Jed Nelson went 2 for 3 for Lyle/Pacelli with a double, a triple, three RBI’s and two runs scored, Hunter VaDeer was a perfect 3 for 3 with a double, a RBI and three runs scored, Jayden Lewis went 2 for 3 with a triple, three RBI’s and a run scored, Zach Bollingberg was 1 for 4 with two runs scored in the win and Isaac Nelsen, Logan Brooks and Landon Meyer all added a hit apiece, with Meyer’s hit being a RBI double.

Jake Truckenmiller pitched the first three innings for the win on the mound, giving up one unearned run on one hit, walking seven and striking out one.  Jayden Lewis pitched a perfect inning of relief, striking out four and Isaac Nelson also pitched one inning of relief and gave up two runs, both earned, on two hits, striking out two and walking three.

With the doubleheader sweep, Lyle/Pacelli now sits at a perfect 8-0 on the season, and the Athletics are right back into action today at Mabel-Canton, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
