The Lyle/Paecelli Athletics baseball team, ranked No. 2 in the state in the latest Class A poll were looking to keep their record perfect in Truman Monday versus the Cougars of Mountain Lake/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman, and the Athletics received yet another stellar mound performance from a starter, this one from Jake Truckenmiller who fired a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 LP win.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when Lyle/Pacelli pushed across a pair of runs for a 2-0 lead, and the Athletics added some big-time insurance with three additional runs in the fifth.  Truckenmiller was able to do the rest on the mound as he gave up no runs on just two hits, striking out four and walking one.

The Athletics were led offensively by Hunter VaDeer, who went 2 for 4 with a triple, two RBI’s and a run scored, leadoff hitter Landon Meyer went 1 for 2 with a run knocked in and another scored, Dane Schara went 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Isaac Nelsen, Jack Klingfus and Logyn Brooks picked up the other hits in the game for LP, and Trey Anderson drew a walk and scored a run in the win.  For the game, the Athletics tallied five runs on seven hits, two errors and eight men were left on base, while the Cougars tallied no runs on two hits, two errors and six men left on base.

With the win, Lyle/Pacelli is a perfect 10-0 on the season, and the Athletics are right back into action at Marcusen Park today (Tuesday) versus Southland, ranked No. 9 in the latest Class A poll, with first pitch at Marcusen Park scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
