Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team routs Schaeffer Academy 21-0 in 5 innings Wednesday
The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics baseball team continued a busy week of action at Marcusen Park Wednesday versus Southeast Conference and Section 1A foe Schaeffer Academy, and a 13-run deluge in the bottom of the third inning propelled the Athletics to a 21-0, 5-inning win.
The game was scoreless after one inning when the Athletics tallied six runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-0 lead before blowing the game wide open with the 13-run bottom of the third to take a 19-0 lead. LP then tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to account for the 21-0 final.
There were hitting heroes aplenty for the Athletics Wednesday, who piled up 15 hits for the game and were led by Dawson Jenkins, who was a perfect 3 for 3 with four RBI’s and three runs scored, leadoff hitter Landon Meyer went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three runs scored, Logyn Brooks was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Hunter Wollenburg tallied two hits in three trips to the plate with two RBI’s and three runs scored, third baseman Jack Klingfus went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI’s and two runs scored, Grady Meyer was 1 for 2 with two runs knocked in and two more scored, Isaac Small went 1 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and Joey Schulte was 1 for 1 in the lopsided win.
Landon Meyer got the start on the mound for Lyle/Pacelli and held the Lions to only one hit in five innings of work, striking out three and walking one as the Athletics totaled 21 runs, 15 hits, no errors and four men left on base, while the Lions totaled no runs on one hit, three errors and three men left on base.
With the win, the Athletics are now a perfect 10-0 on the season, and their hectic week continues today (Thursday) at Marcusen Park versus Mabel-Canton in a Southeast Conference matchup, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
