Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team downs LeRoy/Ostrander 101-45 in Lyle Thursday evening
In a game you heard on AM 1480 KAUS, the Lyle/Pacelli Athletics and the LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals were both looking to get back on the winning track in Southeast Conference West Division boys basketball action in Lyle Thursday evening, and it was the Athletics seeing five players tally double figures in scoring and the club scoring 70 points in the first half on their way to a 101-45 win.
LeRoy/Ostrander led 6-4 in the very early going Thursday evening before the Athletics reeled off a 38-6 run to take a 42-12 lead, keyed in large part by pressure defense, which never let the Cardinals get into an offensive rhythm and forced 18 Cardinal turnovers in the first half alone and 29 for the game, and easy baskets in transition off of those turnovers, plus white-hot shooting from the field to the tune of a 70-26 halftime lead on their way to the win. The Athletics shot an unheard-of 88.6% from inside the 3-point arc, or 31 of 35 for the game, while they were 6 for 20 from behind the 3-point line, or 30%.
Senior guard Buay Koak led LP in scoring Thursday night with 26 points, plus he added six rebounds, four assists and three steals, sophomore guard Landon Meyer added 20 points, two rebounds and three steals off the Athletics’ bench, senior guard Trey Anderson tallied 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals, senior guard Mac Nelson scored 12 points, plus he chipped in five rebounds and three assists, senior guard Jake Truckenmiller garnered 11 points, a team-high nine assists, four steals and a blocked shot, sophomore forward Dylan Christianson scored five points, all in the first half, senior forward Hunter Bauer tallied four points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot, senior forward David Christianson chipped in three points and senior forward Othello Stone scored two points with under one minute to play to boost LP over 100 points in the game. Sophomore guard Camden Hungerholt led LeRoy/Ostrander in scoring with 16 points Thursday night, while senior guard Tristian Lewison and sophomore forward Carter Sweeney each tallied nine points in the loss.
With the win, Lyle/Pacelli is now 7-2 overall and 7-0 in the Southeast Conference, while LeRoy/Ostrander falls to 1-7 overall with the loss, and they are now 0-3 in the conference. The Athletics return to action at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Lyle versus Legacy Christian, the No. 10 team in the state in the last Class A poll from the Minnesota Basketball News, while the Cardinals are back in action next Tuesday in LeRoy versus Southland in another Southeast Conference West Division matchup, with tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
