Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team falls to Schaeffer Academy 65-56 Friday evening
The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team was looking to get back on the winning track Friday evening as they wrapped up a brief two-game road swing in Rochester versus Schaeffer Academy, and it was the Lions coming out on top in the Southeast Conference matchup 65-56.
Lyle/Pacelli held an 18-10 lead in the first half, only to see the Lions end the half on a 17-6 run to lead 27-24 at the halftime break. The Athletics were able to work their way out in front by as many as five points in the second half, the last time at 44-39 before Schaeffer Academy went on an 18-1 run to take their largest lead of the game at 12 points at 57-45. The Athletics were able to work their way back as close as three points at 57-54 and again at 59-56, but they would get no closer as the Lions were able to hold off the comeback attempt to secure the win.
Chase Bauer led LP in scoring Friday night with 21 points, plus he added one rebound, three assists and two steals, Dylan Christianson put up a stat line of 17 points, a team-high six rebounds, one assist and two blocked shots, Landon Meyer totaled six points, five rebounds and a team-high six assists, and Marshall Burma drained a 3-pointer for three points in a game that saw the Lions do just enough from 2-point field goal range (23-51, 45.1%) and from the free-throw line (12-18, 66.7%) to secure the win, despite Lyle/Pacelli draining more 3-pointers (9-7), forcing more turnovers (17 for the Lions, 13 for LP) and pulling in more rebounds (32-20).
The Athletics are now 8-11 overall on the season, and 6-8 in the Southeast Conference, and Lyle/Pacelli will kick off a three-game homestand Thursday night versus LeRoy/Ostrander, with varsity tip-off scheduled for 7:15 p.m. that evening.
