Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team outduels Southland 52-41 Friday evening

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics boys basketball team kicked off a regular season-ending back-to-back in Adams Friday night versus the Southland Rebels in a Southeast Conference matchup, and it was the Athletics, who led 26-23 at the half opening the second half on a 19-8 run to take a 14-point lead at 45-31 on their way to a 52-41 win.

Lyle/Pacelli was held to 4 for 22 shooting from behind the 3-point arc for 18.2% and 39.2% overall for the game, but the Athletics defense held the Rebels to 35.7% shooting overall from the field, plus they outrebounded Southland 33-19 for the game and forced 15 turnovers to 10 of their own.  Senior guard Buay Koak led the Athletics in scoring Friday night with 19 points, plus he added eight rebounds, one assist and a team-high three blocked shots, Mac Nelson and Jake Truckenmiller both scored 12 points, with Nelson adding four rebounds, four assists and a steal, and Truckenmiller pulled in eight rebounds, dished out a team-high five assists, plus he added a team-high five steals and a blocked shot.  Landon Meyer chipped in four points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal, Hunter Bauer contributed three points, three rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots, and Trey Anderson added two points, five rebounds, one assist and four steals in the win.

With the victory, Lyle/Pacelli is now 21-4 overall on the season and 18-1 in the Southeast Conference, and the Athletics will wind up the regular season with a stern road test indeed Saturday night at Spring Grove versus the Lions, who won the East Division of the Southeast Conference and sport a record of 23-1 coming into the contest, which tips off at 7:15 p.m. Saturday evening.
