Lyle/Pacelli Athletics football team downs Cedar Mountain 14-6 Saturday

The Lyle/Pacelli Athletics football team was looking for its first win of the season against unbeaten Cedar Mountain in a Week 3 matchup in Lyle Saturday afternoon, and Athletics running back Trey Anderson carried the ball 25 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns, including a 10-yard run to paydirt in the third quarter that wound up being the eventual game-winner in a 14-6 LP win.

Anderson’s 2-yard touchdown run with 2:55 left in the first quarter, coupled with a 2-point conversion run by quarterback Jake Truckenmiller put the Athletics ahead 8-0 after one half of play, and after Anderson’s 3rd quarter touchdown run, an 8-yard touchdown pass from Cougars quarterback Cooper Freitag to Blake Steffl with 6:40 left in the 4th quarter made the score 14-6 after the 2-point conversion attempt was no good.  The Athletics used their defense and ball control to hold off the Cougars the rest of the way for win, as LP dominated time of possession 28:49 to 19:11, despite turning the ball over twice compared to one turnover for Cedar Mountain.

Both teams ran 54 plays for a total of 234 yards, and LP quarterback Jake Truckenmiller was 7 of 15 passing for 89 yards.  Truckenmiller also carried the ball seven times for seven yards, and Hunter Bauer had four carries for 10 yards.  Besides his 128 rushing yards, Anderson was also Lyle/Pacelli’s top receiver with three catches for 44 yards, and David Christianson tallied three catches for 39 yards.  Anderson also led LP in tackles with eight solo stops in the win.

Lyle/Pacelli is now 1-2 on the season, and the Athletics return to action Friday night in Adams versus the 0-3 Southland Rebels, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
